Printing from the life model

I spent the weekend at hot bed press doing a bit of life drawing and waterless lithography.

Drawing 'blind' with a sharp stick onto carbon paper.

Drawing straight onto the plate using ink.
The washed and prepped plate is covered in etching ink ready for printing.

The life drawings I produced are much looser than usual. Using something other than pen or pencil is quite an interesting exercise. Drawing with your arm instead of your wrist is another technique that I've never used. The drawings lack any sort of detail but the lines are quite fluid.

Life Drawings

I got a lot out of the course. I've learned some new life drawing techniques and a new printing method. While  the lithography produces a nice looking print it is a rather arduous process. It was enjoyable nonetheless.
